On Thursday, September 26, 2025, the Hyatt Place Hotel Starbucks in Bethesda issued a statement announcing its closure by the end of this week. The announcement was posted on a sign displayed in the store’s window.
400 Starbucks locations nationwide are set to close, along with layoffs affecting 900 staff members. This is part of a $1 billion restructuring initiative, which Starbucks plans to implement by eliminating positions and closing some stores in the U.S. and Canada.
This beloved Starbucks location was a staple for the Bethesda Chevy Chase community and was one of the most popular lunch spots for students. This closure will alter many people’s daily routines and will be deeply missed by many. The reasons for this closure are still unclear; however, the company stated on the sign that making the decision was “incredibly difficult.”
