Tradition is a key part of the Barons Girls’ Volleyball team. It’s the bond that unites them as they work together to achieve their goals year after year. Many teams at BCC have team events to bring them closer together before the season starts, as well as during the season. One way the volleyball team comes together is by hosting an Orange Out match. Senior captain Samara Negron shares, “Each year we host an Orange Out Match in memory of Mr. Palafox, where we all dress up in orange.” Adding, “We all have the unspoken respect and understanding for each other.”
Captains play a huge role in planning and promoting team events. Tradition fosters trust and connection among the athletes. It is essential to pass down these traditions to future Baron athletes, allowing them to continue the legacy established by former players. “I know that the team culture will continue being developed and that the players will continue supporting each other on and off the court,” explains Samara Negron.
Negron adds, “We do team lifting before practice sometimes, which allows us to work together before we actually get on the court.” Team chemistry has clearly translated onto the court, allowing the Girls’ Varsity Volleyball team to take the first three wins of the season. Samara Negron also notes, “…A lot of the girls hang out outside of practice and before practice, which allows them to build trust that translates to communication on the court.” There’s no doubt these traditions will continue to build strong chemistry for years to come.
