A week after being shut out by Churchill, B-CC Football bounced back, defeating the Blair Blazers 50-12 in their first game back at The Guck this season on Friday, September 12th. The game featured key defensive stops, a dynamic rushing attack, and a few costly penalties that negated some big plays by the Barons’ offense.
Both teams started slowly, ending the first quarter tied at 6-6. The Barons kept fighting and gradually built a sizable lead. By the end of the third quarter, the game was being played on a running clock. In the fourth quarter, the Barons rested most of their starters, giving the less experienced players a chance to see the field.
Losing 16-0 can be demoralizing for any team. Head coach Matt Schwartzback explained, “We treated [this game] like we were 0-0. Our goal was to go 1-0 every week.” Several players embraced that mindset and left their week-one loss in the rearview mirror. Running back Gabe Eisler rushed for 177 yards and four touchdowns, defensive lineman DeAndre Blakeney recorded seven tackles and consistently disrupted plays, and sophomore quarterback Jack Conley tallied 63 passing yards and 144 all-purpose yards.
Next week, the Barons will face Northwest High School on Friday, September 19th, at The Guck. Looking ahead, Conley said, “We have a way better [opponent] next week. We can’t even think about this game. It’s in the past. We just have to keep going hard in practice.” B-CC Football will look to carry this momentum into a challenging matchup against a shaky Northwest team.
