Several changes were introduced with the start of the 2025-2026 school year at B-CC High School, including a new phone policy and grading system. But are these adjustments truly helping students in the classroom, or are they creating more challenges than benefits? After speaking with both students and teachers, it appears that there are mixed opinions.
The new “Up and Away” phone policy is receiving positive feedback. Junior Grey Haynie says that having his phone away in his pockets helps him: “stay more focused on my work” during class. Dr. Scribnick, a history teacher at B-CC, agrees, “Students seem more focused and attentive since they don’t have their phones.”
Students, however, appear more concerned about the new grading system. “I think it’s, like, kind of inconvenient,” says junior Vera Irusta. “People are definitely more cautious about, like, percentage-wise.”
The school year is only just beginning, but so far, the feedback seems to be mixed. While the phone policy is earning praise, the grading system has left some students uncertain. As the year progresses, some opinions may change, others may remain the same—the question still stands: are these new policies really helpful?
