B-CC has plans for the addition of its own School Based Health and Wellness Centers. For starters, we know that the Wellness center will be housed in C101, as the allocation of space for the center was decided and completed before the first day of school. The space will consist of two dedicated offices and one group meeting space for DHHS staff. As we know with the four other Wellness Centers, the application for services process is available to all students, regardless of insurance status. The only requirement is for parents to sign a written consent for their children to receive the services.

Additionally, we know that services will include routine or sports physical exams, diagnosis and treatment of minor/acute/chronic health problems, health screenings, immunizations, dispensing of medications, and even access to dental care. Most of these services will be provided by the school’s health care team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, school nurses, and certified nursing technicians, contracted through DHHS and other partnering nonprofit organizations.

At this point, the Administration at B-CC is still not 100% clear on the personnel who will be staffing the Wellness Center and when exactly they will be there. They are still working out different details, like how the Center will work during the school day, or if the Center will be open during post-school hours. We are getting more details every week, but they are at least moving in the right direction to get these Wellness Centers up and running.
