With strong teamwork and high energy, the Girls’ Varsity Volleyball team won its season opener at home against Blair.
Senior Captain Samara Negron and Sophomore Captain Claire Tepper led the team both on and off the court. Junior Sabine Kong explained how working together as a team is essential for success: “One time when the team felt truly together was when we’d all huddle up, listening to what the coaches and captains said and what our next steps would be.” Their goal during this match was to play cleanly, effectively, and support each other. This intensity and commitment allowed them to bring home a first-game win.
It was a close match from start to finish. The Barons took the first two sets, 25-17 and 26-24. The Blazers won the third set, 25-18, but the Barons bounced back in the fourth set, 25-21, to secure the match. “The first win made the entire team super excited to see how far we can go into the season,” said Kong. “And just like in every game, it showed us that winning is a great feeling, so we’re going to strive for that.”
The 3-1 victory is just the start and will give them momentum for their next game against Seneca Valley on September 9th.
