As B-CC’s fall sports kick off, coaches and students begin the process of voting for their team captains. Team captains are leaders on and off the field — crucial parts of their teams. These captains are known for working hard behind the scenes, organizing spirit days, planning team bonding activities, and helping to lead practices. For many student athletes, the captain position is very desirable, but taking on this responsibility comes with necessary duties.
With athletics being such a significant part of the B-CC community, it is extremely important that the captains set a good example for their teammates. Junior Amelia Morton has been captain of varsity field hockey since her sophomore year. Morton stated her contribution to team: “We organize team spirit days, and on a day we didn’t have practice, we organized a team hike out on the Billy Goat Trail.” With Amelia’s help, the team has had numerous opportunities to bond and become a family.
Senior Noah Grosberg is one of the boys’ varsity soccer captains. “I think I contribute good leadership and communication as a captain,” Grosberg says. Aside from helping with team bonding, captains also help direct practices. Morton shares her own experience, “…we help lead the drills and coordinate with our coach about our plans that day and scrimmage times.”
The B-CC community depends on team captains to facilitate a competitive yet supportive environment. Team captains are not only necessary pillars for B-CC’s sports teams, but also important for the whole community.
