It’s official! Fourteen-time Grammy Award-winning artist Taylor Swift and three-time Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce are engaged. Swift announced their engagement via Instagram on Tuesday, August 26, showcasing the couple at Kelce’s private garden in a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri.
Swift and Kelce have had a unique relationship from the beginning. Kelce attended Swift’s Eras Tour in July of 2023, where she performed on stage. He also publicly spoke on his podcast, shared with his brother, Jason Kelce, about his experience and his attempts to get to know Swift. In September of 2023, Taylor Swift made her first appearance in support of Kelce at a regular-season NFL game at Arrowhead Stadium, when Kelce had tried to grab Swift’s attention just two months before.
Taylor Swift is one of the most popular artists worldwide, with a large portion of her fans being high school students. Junior Pierce McKenna shares his enthusiasm about the new beginnings for the couple: “I’m just really happy for them.”
Some other high school students are not as ecstatic as McKenna. Sophomore Addie Rich voices her skepticism about their relationship, “I don’t know…it might be fake and just for the media.” Sharing Rich’s thoughts, many people have criticized their relationship. Football fans worldwide expressed their dissatisfaction across social media platforms like X and TikTok.
Even though the couple has consistently faced hate, their engagement has gotten overwhelming support on social media. Taylor Swift’s Instagram announcement received over one million reposts and fourteen million likes within the first hour.
The two superstars have yet to announce a wedding date, given Kelce’s upcoming NFL season and Swift’s new album release.
