The B-CC football season starts on September 5, and the first game is very important for many fans, athletes, and students. A large fan attendance also helps motivate the players for that game and the rest of the season.
However, both an away field hockey game and an away boys’ soccer game occur at the same time as the first football game. This conflict has many negative outcomes, affecting lots of Barons. The soccer and field hockey players won’t be able to attend the first football game, and will have fewer fans at their games because of the overlap.
Ashley Payne, a senior field hockey player, said, “It’s kind of upsetting because I have to miss out on all the themes, and it’s my first football game of senior year.” Payne also talked about how her peers felt: “Other teammates are very upset, and feel unincluded and left out.”
Alex Kukov, a junior on the soccer team, described similar feelings: “[A] bunch of my teammates want to go to the field game and can’t because of our game and so it’s a bit annoying”.
While this conflict is a major dissapointment to many at B-CC, the good news is that for non-athletes, there are a number of great options for how to spend Friday night.
