With students excited to go back to school, the B-CC administration has made a number of changes. One of the most notable changes was to the schedule; specifically, with lunch being extended by over ten minutes.
Students look forward to lunch everyday, lunch being a time to socialize with friends and a greatly needed break from school work. Last year, lunch started at 11:13 and lasted until noon, totaling 47 minutes. This year, lunch starts at 11:05 and goes till 12:05—a full hour. The administration found this extra time in the schedule by shortening the transition periods from six to five minutes.
Students are already seeing the benefits. Junior Maddy Fetrow said, “With ten minutes more, I can go much further (such as Panera or Tropical Smoothie) without being late for class.” Junior Wren Stout said, “Longer lunch will improve my mental health and well-being drastically. I can eat more, see my friends more, and it also prepares me better for my second half of the day.”
Many teachers are also in support of the change. Ceramics teacher Mr. Kirk said, “I do like it and I think it provides more flexibility for students and teachers to be able to get or provide academic support as well as sometimes much needed mental health time.”
