For many, prom is the highlight of senior year, a night built up by stories, movies, and years of anticipation. But when it finally arrives, does it live up to the hype?
Expectations:
“I don’t think there’s anything as perfect, but I honestly want to be with my friends and be happy.” – Claire Daignault
“I’m excited. Even if things go badly for whatever reason, or if [it doesn’t] reach my expectations, I still know that I’m there having a great time.” – Marshall Strickland
“I’m most excited about being with my whole grade, and even saying hi to my teachers [who will be at the dance], especially because I’m not gonna see them after that.” – Claire Daignault
Reality:
“The most memorable moment was seeing all of my friends and our grade at the Jefferson Memorial.” – Simone Kang
“The only thing I would’ve changed was taking more pictures. That just goes the same with life. Sometimes you just gotta take pictures, because your memory can only hold so much for so long.” – Marshall Strickland
“The most memorable moment was seeing my teachers and classmates at pinstripes and being sentimental about leaving B-CC.” – Claire Daignault
Whether it was dancing, sentimental goodbyes, or just soaking in the moment with friends, the reality of prom proved that it’s not about meeting some idealized version of the night. Instead, it’s about making the most of one last night with the people who’ve been there throughout all of high school with you.
