Thursday, June 5, marked Mr. Young’s final day at B-CC. A beloved history teacher, Mr. Young is leaving the classroom to join the U.S. Capitol Police.
Mr. Young has spent the past decade as an educator, with his last two years at B-CC, where he taught AP African American Studies and Honors U.S. History. Known for his engaging lessons and for making connections with all his students, Mr. Young quickly became respected and influential within the school community.
On Monday, he will begin training with the U.S. Capitol Police at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Maryland. After his training there is complete, he will continue with 16 weeks of specialized instruction in Georgia. The full training program lasts six months, after which he will be assigned to a division within the force.
The U.S. Capitol Police is a federal law enforcement agency tasked with protecting members of Congress, the U.S. Capitol building, and everyone who works in or visits the Capitol complex.
Mr. Young shared that his decision to pursue law enforcement has been a long time in the making. A close friend at church first sparked his interest, and after researching various federal agencies such as the secret service he discovered a deep interest and knew he wanted to pursue this dream. “Once I got confirmed into the training program, I couldn’t believe that this was really happening,” Mr. Young said.
Though Mr. Young will be deeply missed at B-CC, the community is confident he will make a meaningful impact in his next chapter. “Don’t be afraid to follow what you’re passionate about,” he said. “You never know where it might take you.”
