Last Monday, May 19th, the 17-year-old B-CC Baking Club celebrated another successful year of friendly competition and community-building.
Run by students Sikelia Pasquina and Julia Meddin, the club hosts biweekly baking competitions centered around fun and creative themes, ranging from wedding cakes to international dishes to Pi Day. This final competition, however, was all about celebrating the club itself, with bakers simply asked to bring their best efforts to the table.
Adam Slagle took home the award for presentation with a stunning lemon meringue pie, while Julia Meddin won for taste with her crowd-pleasing tiramisu.
To get a better sense of the club’s spirit, we spoke with co-leader Sikelia Pasquina. “We just love getting to share our baked goods with each other,” she said. “Sharing different recipes including cultural ones is something we all enjoy. We think it’s a really positive club, and it always makes our Mondays better.”
After each competition, leftover treats are delivered to teachers and staff around B-CC. Beyond baking for fun, the club also organizes several charitable bake sales throughout the year, with proceeds supporting local homeless shelters.
