The B-CC Varsity Baseball team finished the regular season with a record of 11-6, which is disappointing given their strong 8-0 start. In their last four games, the team managed to win only one, suffering losses to three strong teams: Sherwood, Damascus and Walter Johnson.
The Barons had an exceptional start to the season, despite being without their ace, Henry Eichner. Eichner, who will play at the University of Massachusetts Amherst next season, has since been ruled out for the remainder of the season after returning briefly in the middle of the season to pitch one inning against Gaithersburg. In his absence, the Barons have found two standout pitchers in seniors Will Adkinson and Bryan Doukouris. Additionally, B-CC has achieved this success under the leadership of a new head coach, Andrew Brilliant.
The Barons will host Gaithersburg today at 3:45 p.m. in the regional round of the 4A West II playoffs. Earlier this season, the Barons defeated the Trojans 9-6 at home. Freshman George Cropp will be the starting pitcher for the Barons today.
This will be the last playoff run and could even be the last game for several seniors on the Barons. For one, outfielder Tyler Prendergast, it is a chance to make the most of his final attempt at a State Championship. “I’m approaching this playoff run somewhat melancholy, but at the same time, fueled with revenge because of last year when we were first-round exits, and now with a new coach, I’m gonna give it my very all,” said Prendergast.
