B-CC Varsity Baseball improved their record to 6-0 and secured the No. 1 seed in the 4A West II region after a 4-2 win at Whitman in extra innings this past Wednesday. With the recent losses of Sherwood and Richard Montgomery, the Barons are now the only undefeated team remaining in Montgomery County.
Both B-CC pitchers had impressive outings. Senior Will Adkinson threw five innings, struck out three batters and allowed just two runs. Senior Mack Lieberman closed the game with three innings pitched and five strikeouts. Together, they held the Vikings hitless with runners in scoring position through 11 at-bats.
“As someone who doesn’t throw very hard or has the best metrics, I find that having trust in my teammates and just doing everything I can to throw strikes,” Lieberman said. “Making the other team put the ball in play, as well as having unwavering confidence in myself — knowing that I am able to shove — and making sure I give myself the best opportunity to do so. Also, to help keep me calm, I find it very useful to imagine their players in their underwear to help take the pressure off.”
Some of the standout players for the Barons were senior captain Trent Lopez, senior Aidan Flynn and junior Ouest Vermillion. Lopez played a crucial role and went 2-for-4 with a home run to deep center field off of a 90 mph fastball. Flynn contributed by going 1-for-1 with a double and two walks. Vermillion had an outstanding performance going 3-for-3 and delivering a game-winning sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth and final inning that scored junior captain Jayson Cohen. Later that same inning, senior Tyler Prendergast was able to cross home plate on a wild pitch to extend the Baron’s lead to two.
With the undefeated streak remaining intact, hopes are high for Barons’ baseball this season.
