The word “forensics” often conjures the image of police scientists at crime scenes finding fingerprints and bloodstains, but it can also refer to the field of public speaking. B-CC’s forensics team won six first-place individual awards and 16 other top-five individual placements. Not only that, but they won a group award and three other group top-five placements. Finally, B-CC senior Wren Boulet-Simon was inducted into the Montgomery County Forensics Hall of Fame after four consecutive years of competition.
Senior Evelyn Trackman, a captain of the team, said, “I joined forensics because I was interested in public speaking, and a little bit of acting, storytelling, and the community and the environment that forensics has formed and fostered was a really big draw once I joined.” Senior Isabel Miller, another captain, said, “I’ve always loved theater and public speaking, and so [forensics] sounded like a lot of fun”.
B-CC Social Studies teacher Mrs. Rizas first began coaching forensics in 2015; she recently rejoined, helping lead the team to success. “I think next year is going to be interesting to see what some of our younger members can do on the team, and I’m excited to see what categories and themes they seem to be passionate about,” she said.
Students interested in B-CC Forensics are encouraged to sign up during next year’s club fair.
