Junior Ada Moore has earned a Gold Key at the 2024-2025 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her digital artwork, Beauty Standard. This honor places her among Maryland’s top young artists, showcasing her talent and artistic future. Junior Ada Moore said, “I created it as part of my AP Art portfolio, which centers around factors impacting teenage relationships. I aimed to illustrate the toxic culture of beauty standards and the pressure to change your appearance that affects young women’s self-esteem worldwide.”
The Scholastic Art and Writing competition is highly competitive, with thousands of students nationwide submitting work each year. Moore said, “I’m so honored to have received any form of recognition for this work– especially a Gold Key award was so exciting! Since I won gold in the Maryland Region, this means that my piece will be judged further on March 26 in the National competition.”
This achievement showcases her talent in the visual arts, but it is just one of her many accomplishments. Beyond art, Moore is a standout member of the B-CC Moves Dance Team. Vice President of B-CC Moves Anna Berkowitz said, “Ada has had a strong presence at B-CC Moves and always brings a high, positive energy to practice. She has always been a great dancer and the club is very lucky to have her […] As a leader, Ada is skilled in editing music and making formations, which comes in very handy.”
In the theater, Moore takes charge of the choreography for B-CC’s theatre program, where she has been a student choreographer for the past two years. This year, for Anastasia, Moore is the sole student choreographer and choreographed all of the main dance numbers including A Rumor in St. Petersburg, Paris Holds the Key, Land of Yesterday, the Countess and the Common Man, and the ending dance bows. On top of her role as choreographer, Ada Moore plays Countless Lily in the musical.
Moore concluded, “I’ve been drawing ever since I was young but my passion especially developed during the pandemic. Art became my outlet during that period of isolation.”
