Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate the ones we love and care about. However, everyone celebrates the day differently. People in relationships may spend this time going on dates and exchanging gifts. Those who aren’t in relationships have picked up different kinds of traditions, such as festivities with their close friends.
When people typically think about Valentine’s Day, they usually associate it with spending the day with your significant other. Junior Abby Meers shared, “I plan on cooking dinner with my boyfriend and giving him the gift I made him.” She added, “Dedicating one day to celebrate a person that I care about means so much to me.”
While Valentine’s Day has been around for a while, a more recent tradition, Galentines is a new way to celebrate with your friends. People typically spend this time doing a group activity that brings everyone together.
Junior Summer Smith shared, “Me and my friends typically set up a dinner party and take photos together. I think it’s really great when everyone can come together, especially for a special occasion.”
She added, “Valentine’s Day allows an opportunity for people you care about to come and be together. This holiday embraces different traditions when it comes to celebrating people you love and care about.”
Even though Valentine’s Day is celebrated in many different ways, statistics show that 68 percent of Americans plan on celebrating Valentine’s Day, whether that’s with a partner or other loved ones in their lives.
