In what can only be described as a statement game, the B-CC Barons Varsity Girls Basketball team beat undefeated divisional rival Winston Churchill, 56-44 on January 10, 2025. The victory not only added another win to the column but also solidified the Barons as one of the top teams to beat in divisional play.
The star of the night was undoubtedly Sasha Barr, who turned the gym into her personal three-point clinic. Barr dropped 26 points, draining six three-pointers and electrifying the crowd with her sharpshooting.
When asked about her performance, Barr said, “I was really excited. It was my career high and I’m glad I could help contribute to the team win.”
Despite the Barons’ pressure, Churchill controlled much of the first half. The Bulldogs ended the half with a six-point lead. However, B-CC’s composure and ability to shoot beyond the arc kept them within striking distance.
In the second half, the Barons leaned on their defense. They switched to a 2-3 to minimize Churchill’s lead and capitalize in transition. They remained in their full court press to continue to force turnovers. Senior guard Frances Doyle dominated in the paint with key put-backs and layups to keep the Barons in the game. Churchill’s offense struggled to find its rhythm late in the game, as B-CC’s pressure defense proved too much to handle.
“This was a big divisional win for us,” head coach Ryan Ingalls said. “We’ve been putting it all together lately.”
With this win, the Barons improved their divisional record and gained momentum heading into a critical stretch of games. Divisional play continues today, January 14th, when the Barons head to Walt Whitman High School to take on the Vikings at 5:30 pm. Whitman, a dominant team this season, is known for its transition offense and could test the Barons if they don’t bring their A-game.
The Barons are positioning themselves as legitimate contenders for the division title, but consistency will be key as they navigate the next few weeks of play.
