B-CC Junior Sophie Ecker has been selected to perform in the prestigious National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-Eastern Choir. This esteemed honor recognizes exceptional vocal talent and dedication to musical excellence.
Every two years, the NAfME All-Eastern Choir brings together 200 talented high school vocalists from the East Coast. Students are selected through a rigorous audition based on their vocal abilities, musicality, and overall performance.
Ecker said, “The time slots for auditions are about 15 minutes. You go into a room with two judges, one of whom you cannot see, and try to minimize any potential biases they may have.”
Ecker is among the top 5% of students in Maryland who were selected to perform in this year’s choir. She said, “When I found out, I was in disbelief. I had just caught a sickness going around before auditioning, and I didn’t even think I would make it into All-State this year. I am incredibly grateful.”
The All-Eastern Choir will be held in Hartford, Connecticut, from April 24 to 27, 2025. This event offers young musicians a unique opportunity to collaborate with renowned conductors and perform alongside their peers across the region.
