B-CC Boys Varsity Basketball started their season with two big wins. On Friday, December 6, the Barons visited Rockville and comfortably beat the Rams with a final score of 63-48. Next, in their home opener on Monday, the Barons took down the Poolesville Falcons in dominating fashion, beating them 57-26.
In front of the home crowd, the Barons put on a show, pulling away from the Falcons early and never relinquishing the lead. Senior captain Cameron Rothstein-Epp took over in the first quarter scoring 11 of the Barons’ first 15 points and ending with 25. On the defensive end, the Barons’ defense suffocated the Falcons’ offensive attacks.
If there is one aspect to improve on defensively, it would be minimizing fouls. Five out of the Falcons’ seven first-quarter points came from the charity strike. While it never came back to hurt the Barons, these are mistakes they can not afford to make in closer games.
The Barons were able to build on their strong performance in the opening quarter, heading into halftime up 29-13. B-CC continued to control the game through the third quarter leading 42-16. At its conclusion, the Barons’ lead would never again dip below 15 points.
An 11-0 run, powered by lights-out three-point shooting paired with suffocating defense, put the game away for good. In their next test, the Barons will take on Seneca Valley away today, Friday, December 13.
