On December 6, B-CC’s ice hockey team went head-to-head with Blair at the Rockville Ice Arena. A cold and dark night set the tone for what would be a hard-fought game that would come down to the wire.
Coming off a disappointing loss, the Barons were motivated and prepared to take on the Blazers in a regular season rivalry game. The first and second periods were dominated by the Barons’ defense holding the Blazers scoreless. Freshman right wing Ryan Duffy would complement the defense by scoring to put the Barons up 1-0, a lead that held until early in the third period when Blair would tie the game. The Barons did not back down and quickly responded with a huge goal from senior captain Evan Williams to put the Barons back in front. With the lead, and only three minutes remaining, the game seemed to have been in the hands of the Barons, but, in the final moments of the game, the Blazers would put up two goals to end with a 3-2 victory.
“We played together as a team and applied defensive pressure early in the game which allowed us to set the tone, unfortunately, mental errors killed us in the third period,” senior Evan Williams said.
The Barons play a hockey team of players from both Northwest and Quince Orchard today. This will not be B-CC’s first run-in with this team, earlier in the season the two went at it resulting in a 10-1 win for the Barons. The Barons’ team chemistry has strengthened and should set the stage for an exciting rematch.
