CHIPS is holding a writing and art contest with the Smithsonian display sponsored by the Museum of Contemporary Adolescence and Teens MOCAT. This is an opportunity for student poets, writers, and artists to express their creativity under the themes of “Tormenting Teen Years” or “Facades of Adolescence.” MOCAT and The Smithsonian created this so students can share the experiences that adolescents face through art and storytelling. The organization wants to create a deeper understanding of the teenage years and how teens face difficult emotions and identities in the stage of their lives.
The CHIPS contest provides a platform for students to tell their own stories and talk about the journeys growing up takes you on. Participants can submit original prose, poetry and artwork first place and win a chipotle gift card.
CHIPS’ advisor, Ms. Charles said, “Chips collects writing and art throughout the year, but we run a contest in October and November. And so this year, we combined with Mr. Lopilato, and we made sure our prompts had to do with the teen experience.”
B-CC Senior, Jamie Lee won the contest last year and said, “My friend Elisha and I wrote a mystery story for an AP Lang assignment, and Ms. Mahoney encouraged us to submit it. I learned that it’s important to take risks, even if you’re unsure of yourself, I’m so glad we submitted it. Don’t be hesitant. Just submit, because there’s nothing to lose, and you might win!”
The contest deadline is December 15, submissions can be submitted using the QR codes around the school or through CHIPS’ instagram @bcc_chips. Don’t miss this chance to share your story and potentially have a feature in a display!
