In Last Friday’s 4A Regional Championship game, B-CC’s Varsity Football team faced a tough matchup against the strong Quince Orchard Cougars, ultimately scoring only three points while the Cougars tallied a whopping 38.
The game proved challenging for both players and spectators, who had to contend with cold and wet conditions throughout the night. By the end of the game, the once bright, white jerseys worn by the hopeful Baron players, were left muddy and stained like the finish to their season.
Quince Orchard’s star running back Iverson “Rocket” Howard, who is committed to playing football next year at the University of Maryland, led the Cougars off to a quick start. They scored fourteen points in just 16 seconds during the first quarter. By halftime, the Cougars held a commanding 30-3 lead, with Howard already having scored three touchdowns. The only points the Barons managed to put on the board came from a field goal converted by senior Grady Kugel.
In the second half, the Barons held the Cougars to just one score – a remarkable 62-yard rushing touchdown by Howard, who also completed the 2-point conversion. However, the damage had already been done, and the Barons were eliminated from the Maryland state playoffs. They ended their season with an 8-4 record, losing in the same round as last year.
“It was great having such a successful run and making it to the third round of the playoffs,” senior offensive lineman Gilbert Chauny said. “It feels weird that it’s over, but I am grateful for all the people I have met and everything I have learned.”
