The Trevor Project’s text lines have recently been facing increased traffic. The LGBTQIA+ mental health non-profit, which runs crisis text call lines, cites the 2024 election as the source of this increased traffic, stating that it saw a 200% increase in election-related topics and a 125% increase in calls, texts, and messages on November 5 and 6.
In a public, the Trevor Project said, “We will continue to ensure that every LGBTQ+ young person has access to safe, affirming spaces, especially during challenging times.”
The Rainbow Youth Project, a similar non-profit, has also reported increased calls. Prevalent topics include concerns about being able to live authentically, fear of physical harm based on sexual orientation or gender identity, and an increased call volume from concerned family members of LGBTQIA+ youth.
