With under a week until opening night, members of B-CC Theatre are gearing up for their performance of The Great Gatsby. Set on Long Island, New York in 1922–during the Jazz Age–this extravagant play follows the journey of Nick Carraway as he searches for work in New York City and how he becomes acquainted with multi-millionaire Jay Gatsby along the way. Nick becomes wrapped up in Gatsby’s complicated affairs as Gatsby attempts to win back his long-lost love, Daisy Buchanan. The play, based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, explores themes of relationships, societal standing and wealth, consumerism, and the struggles around love.
“The Great Gatsby is such a rich and complex show to explore on stage. Every character in the show represents a different facet of society and personality. I think everyone that comes will see a piece of themselves on stage in some way,” said director Mr. Verga, adding, “My favorite part of directing The Great Gatsby has been to help bring these nuanced and timeless characters to life.”
Opening night is this Thursday, November 14. There will be three shows in total: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, all at 7 p.m. in B-CC’s auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and can be found on bcctheatre.org/tickets.
