Friday, November 8, B-CC’s Black Student Union ventured over to The Catholic University of America and Howard University, an HBCU located in D.C. The goal of these visits was to expose students to different colleges and allow them to picture themselves on campus.
BSU takes multiple trips throughout the year to different colleges, intending to encourage members to apply to and experience higher education. Senior Sara Zemikiel said, “These annual college visits by BSU have been really helpful in building up my list of schools I want to apply to and providing exposure to different HBCUs and other local colleges, like Catholic University and Howard.”
These trips not only help students identify potential colleges but also foster a sense of community and empowerment among the members. Senior Max Saunders said, “Visiting Howard yesterday helped me understand what type of community they have and how proud everyone is to be a Howard student. And it allows you to make your own opinion and not just see it as what the media portrays.”
By visiting a variety of colleges, the BSU aims to broaden the perspectives of its members and encourage these students to pursue higher education with confidence.
