The B-CC varsity field hockey team wrapped up their 2024 season with a 4-0 playoff loss to Whitman on Oct. 24. Despite a strong effort, the Barons struggled to break through Whitman’s defense, as they were held scoreless through all four quarters. The loss was a difficult way to end the season but didn’t overshadow the team’s overall performance and success shown by their 8-4 record.
Reflecting on the season, the highlight was undoubtedly the Barons’ exciting 2-1 overtime win against Whitman on Sept. 28. This thrilling win, in which their offense and defense thrived, marked the team’s best performance of the year. The victory over Whitman and key wins against division rivals like Churchill and Walter Johnson deepened the Barons’ strength and teamwork. Throughout the season, the team developed strong chemistry and became a powerhouse within the division.
Looking ahead, the Barons face a new challenge as they prepare for next season. With 12 seniors graduating, including many of their key players and captains, the team will need underclassmen to step up and take on greater roles. The new year also offers an opportunity for players who did not see the field as much to step up and make an impact. “I am sad to see all the seniors leave, but I’m definitely proud [of them] and excited for another season,” junior Ashley Payne said. With a new wave of players, the team hopes they can continue their momentum and aim for an even deeper playoff run next year.
