Every Halloween season, Markoff’s Haunted Forest is popular among those who love a scare. Open on various weekends and Fridays in October and November, Markoff’s is for those Halloween lovers who can’t get enough of the spooky spirit.
There are many different activities at Markoff’s, with the most popular being “The Trail:” a trail stretching over a mile where participants walk through the woods while actors, fog, lights, and sound effects work to give them a fight. This year, the B-CC Cross Country team took on The Trail. “I thought it was really fun and definitely scary,” junior Aubrey Green said.
Another large attraction at Markoff’s is “The Town,” where, after embarking on a 10-minute wagon ride through the woods and creepy fields, participants are dropped off at a cluster of haunted buildings. Once in the area, participants can get up close and personal with the zombies and other scary creatures. As one walks through the various rooms and buildings, they will be greeted by many people, sounds, and lights — and the walls might even close in on them. But despite the terror, they must not forget to smile at the hidden camera!
For those working with a smaller budget, Markoff’s Midway provides a free alternative to The Trail and The Town. Markoff’s Midway is an enjoyable experience with entertainment and fun activities. It is also the waiting area for The Trail and The Town, so those who arrive early to their paid experiences can get into the Halloween spirit. “I think the Midway has authentic Halloween vibes and a lot of things to do and a new experience, not just waiting,” sophomore Ava Summerfield said. In Markoff’s Midway, there is a wide variety of food and drinks for sale — from waffles to s’mores. There are also activities such as pumpkin carving and balancing on a spinning log, each of which cost a fee to play but come with cash prizes for the winners.
Markoff’s Haunted Forest is a fun activity around Halloween, so make sure to stop by sometime this spooky season!
