The first quarter of the 2024-2025 school year is coming to an end, with November 1, the final day, rapidly approaching. Students have expressed stress as they face the pressure to study, succeed on upcoming tests, and finish assignments. Similarly, teachers are under pressure to grade an ever-increasing mountain of work.
Seniors also have the additional pressure of many colleges having their early application deadlines in November. Some of these applications are due on November 1. But seniors aren’t the only students who are stressed out. Freshmen are also facing the first set of grades in their high school career, which is significantly more difficult than middle school.
French teacher Ms. Byrne commented on the increase in frantic emails about grades as the end of the quarter approaches. She said, “It’s comical to see [emails] with no title, sometimes written in all caps. Others are well written, very respectful.”
Time management strategies and compassionate teachers both help keep the end-of-quarter stress at bay. Senior Astor Viles said, “[I am] thankful [to all my teachers] for being considerate, especially with college applications going on.” He also mentioned the importance of setting goals and concrete plans for completing college applications while staying on top of schoolwork.
It can be hard to maintain perspective with so many tests and assignments coming at you all at once, but November 1, will be behind you before you know it.
