This week, B-CC is hosting its annual Mental Health Awareness Week, dedicated to promoting the well-being of students and staff. The initiative aims to break the stigma around mental health discussions and encourage support towards one another.
Organized by the SGA, a series of engaging activities are planned to raise awareness throughout the week. Schoolwide SGA President Alexander Allin said, “Mental Health Awareness Week is an MCPS week dedicated to self-care and well-being.”
Each day during lunch, therapy dogs will be available in the main lobby. Additionally, a table filled with stress-relief items, including free snacks, bubbles, and fidget toys will be set up for students and staff to enjoy.
The small gym will be open for basketball, while the concourse will feature an array of board and lawn games. The SGA has also introduced a spirit week, with themes that correspond to the five senses.
Monday: Sight – Dress up as your favorite movie or TV character.
Tuesday: Hearing – Dress up with your favorite band tee or concert gear.
Wednesday: Touch – Dress up in your best PJs.
Thursday: Smell – Dress up in florals.
Friday: Taste – Dress in traditional or cultural clothing.
SGA Advisor Ms. Fishel expressed, “[This week] helps to showcase the community and all the important resources we have here. […] Students wanted it to be a celebration of all the [opportunities] we have.”
