In front of an electric student section, the Barons’ early season winning streak ended as B-CC’s football team fell 31-0 in the homecoming game against the Northwest Jaguars on Friday.
The Barons’ record dropped to 4-1. Despite facing a team ranked near the top of the Maryland public school rankings, and a roster with Division I commits, the Barons fought hard until the end.
The Barons’ offense started hot on the opening drive until the momentum came crashing down due to a fumble in Northwest territory. The defense held strong in the first quarter, holding the Jaguars to only three points despite them starting with an advantageous field position on back-to-back drives. On both drives, the Jaguars made it deep into the B-CC red zone, but timely tackles and penalties forced them to settle for a field goal.
Throughout the rest of the game, the Barons’ offense struggled to move the ball, while their defense tried to hold on. The offense tried everything they could to get the ball moving with six different players rushing the ball, however the Jaguar defense held strong.
After trailing 17-0 at halftime, the Barons were able to muster a little bit of momentum back as they perfectly executed an onside kick to get the ball back around midfield. The drive would stall and Northwest quickly regained possession.
Senior Milki Bato was one of the bright spots for B-CC, recording two sacks.
The Barons’ next game is on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Wheaton against the 2-3 Knights.
