B-CC’s Varsity Boys’ and Girls’ Cross-Country are off to a great start this season. They continue their winning streak, both beating Whitman away on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Not many people showed up due to the cloudy and rainy day, but the Barons’ team atmosphere could still be felt from the stands. Despite the bad weather, the Barons excelled and came away with the victory. Before the race, the Barons gathered together and cheered each other on. Whenever a B-CC player finished their race, teammates would stand at the sideline and support the Barons who were still in the race.
”We make [it] very clear from the beginning of the season that we’re always gonna be able to finish better as a team than any one of us would be able to finish individually,” said B-CC head coach Gildon Kirk. “Even if we don’t have the fastest person in a race if we work well together then … our top five runners can score better than another team.”
During the race, the Baron athletes remained strong. Their facial expressions showed just how much they didn’t want to give up. The official team score for the B-CC girls’ cross-country team was 17 while Whitman’s was 43. The score of B-CC’s boys’ was 17 and Whitman’s was 45. The team with the lower score wins. In the end, both of B-CC’s teams had runners that placed first, senior Ani Bailin for the girls’ team and senior Cadan Felten for the boys’ team.
The Barons’ next meet will be on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Skip Grant Invitational and are scheduled to play away at Wootton on Tuesday, October 1.
