As B-CC Varsity Field Hockey prepares to face Urbana High School in their opening game of the season on Wednesday, September 11, there’s a lot to look forward to. The team is led by Head Coach Colby Wright, who is now in her sixth season. The Barons are coming off a strong 10-1 county record from last year. Senior Captain Abby Schrader expressed, “We are connected as a team both on and off the field so I have high hopes for this season.”
Last year, the Barons showcased their abilities by defeating rival Walter Johnson during their playoff run. However, their run was cut short by a loss to Walt Whitman in the next round. This season, the Barons have their sights set on not only returning to the playoffs but going deeper and potentially claiming a state championship. With a mix of experienced upperclassmen and younger talent, the team is focused on building on last year’s success.
The upcoming match against Urbana will be an important early test, giving the Barons a chance to set the tone for the rest of the season.
