The Purple Line, a new rail line that will serve as a direct link between Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, has been in progress for years. Although it will offer numerous benefits, its construction is disturbing BCC students’ route to school.
“At first I was really excited because I can go everywhere around Maryland because of the metro. Now it’s a nuisance because the line is blocking stuff,” says B-CC student Jonah Moran. The Purple Line’s construction took over a key point in the Capital Crescent Trail, blocking a path that Moran and other local residents frequented.
Additionally, staff members are feeling the loss of the path. Long-time resident and B-CC Teacher Mr. Zehner says, “I’m very for public transportation, but I miss my bike path. I’d like to be able to walk on that path again.”
The Purple Line is expected to be completed in December of 2027.
