Girls’ Tennis Competes at MCPS County Tournament

Girls Tennis competed in the MCPS County Tournament this week, sending four singles members and three doubles teams to play.

Competing at 1 singles, Junior Ivy McConarty defeated the player from Kennedy before ultimately falling to the competitor from Poolesville by a score of 6-4, 6-0.

Competing at 2 singles, Sophomore Neela Wadhwa fell to a strong Damascus player in the first round.

Competing at 3 singles, Senior Skye Khademi lost to Blair’s player, 6-1, 6-1 in the first round of the tournament.

Competing at 4 singles, Freshman Clara Privitera easily defeated the Blake competition by a score of 6-0, 6-0 in the first round but lost a very close match to Wootton in the second round. The final score was 6-4, 6-7(2-7), 6-7(5-7).

Competing at 1 doubles, Senior Captain Chloe Wise and Junior Elizabeth Vilardo were seeded fifth, which was enough for a bye in the first round. In the second round, they defeated Blair 6-4, 6-2 after a strong performance. Next, in the quarterfinals, they took on a very good Walter Johnson team that beat them in a close match. The final score was 6-4, 3-6, 2-6.

Competing at 2 doubles, Senior Captain Sydney Seiler and Senior Ella Hottel took on Sherwood in the first round and came away with a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 win. In the second round, they faced an undefeated Wootton team and lost 6-4, 6-4.

Competing at 3 doubles, Freshmen Lucy Barron and Julia Pinto faced Wheaton in the first round and won 6-0, 6-0. In the quarterfinals, they took on Blair, and were able to come away with another win, sending them to the semifinals against Walter Johnson. Despite a strong performance, they were unable to secure the win, losing 3-6, 4-6.

Next week, the Barons will send a singles team and a doubles team to the Maryland State Tournament.
