Coming off a huge season-opening win against Gaithersburg, Girls Varsity Softball hosted Blake for their first home game of the year. The Bengals jumped on the Barons early, scoring nine runs in the first inning. However, the Barons fought back hard, putting up 12 runs in the second and nine runs in the third. Freshmen Abigail Adams and Carly Wright led the team with four hits each to lead the Barons to a massive win of 26-9. Junior Grace Stevens started on the mound, earning the win with three strikeouts in 4 2 ⁄ 3 innings.
The Barons’ toughest test of the season so far came next against a very strong Walter Johnson squad. The Wildcats came out firing, jumping to a 6-3 lead in the first inning. Unfortunately, the Barons could not rally back, losing to a final 15-5. Stevens got the start again for the Barons and allowed nine runs with three strikeouts.
After that loss, B-CC traveled to Whitman for the Battle of Bethesda. B-CC took a 3-0 lead to start the game and never looked back. Wright and Junior, Eliza Schreiber-Bradtke led the team with three hits each and propelled the Barons to an 8-1 win over the Vikings. Stevens started for the third game in a row for the Barons and pitched a complete game, only allowing six hits.
The Barons have a big game today with a matchup against the Churchill Bulldogs.
