B-CC Softball was back in action March 23 with a season opener at Gaithersburg High School. Gaithersburg jumped on the Barons early to a five run lead by the third inning, as the Barons were hit by the Trojans offensive firepower. However, the Barons did not back down. The squad never gave up. The team was able to make 11 hits throughout the game and came back to win by a score of 21-10.
Senior star, Abby Koeppel, led the team with 3 hits including a single and two doubles to propel the Barons to a dominant 21 runs. Koeppel is returning for her senior year and expressed that she is “looking forward to spending time with the team this season and having fun.” Underclassmen and standout Sophomore Koko Jenkin was the starting pitcher for the Barons and dominated from the jump, allowing only three hits and striking out nine. Jenkin is one of the aces for B-CC, and with such impressive pitching, it is no surprise that the team is a force to be reckoned with.
This year’s squad has the leadership, chemistry, and talent to make a real run in the district and state playoffs. The Barons will have their first real test when they take on rivals, Walt Whitman and Walter Johnson High Schools, in two tough matchups next week.
