On Saturday, February 24th, the B-CC wrestling team members who qualified for the regional tournament traveled to Laurel High School for the competition, with the goal being to qualify for the upcoming state tournament.
In all, the Barons managed to have 5 members of the squad qualify for the state tournament, doing so by finishing 4th or higher in their weight class. Firstly, Senior Captain, Seth Weaver, and Junior Captain, Nizhoni Deschene, each became regional champions in their respective weight classes. Secondly, Freshman Kanik Deschene, and Junior Ethan Makle, managed 2nd place finishes, both wrestled hard but were unable to win the first-place match. Finally, Senior Ronen Israel qualified through a fourth-place finish in his weight class. “It is an honor to be at the tournament with all the state’s best wrestlers, it feels really good,” commented Israel.
The state championships are set to be held on Thursday, Feb. 29th, Friday, March 1st, and Saturday, March 2nd.
