The Maryland State Championships happened this past weekend, and the girls placed 3rd as a team, while the boys secured 10th.
On the girl’s side, a third-place finish was earned through strong placements in nearly every category. Individual state finalists included junior captain Addison Mostofi, who got the bronze in the 200-yard freestyle, along with being in the 400-meter freestyle relay team who took home the bronze as well. She was joined by sophomores Hailey Hammond, Brooke Patterson, and Virginia Hinds. Hinds added to her historical young career in more ways than the 400-meter relay though, getting two first-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. She added those two state championships to her state championship in the 100-yard backstroke last year. She will end the season as Swimcloud’s 20th-ranked sophomore in the country (1st in Maryland.)
The boys ended their season strong, getting an incredibly competitive 10th-place spot. Junior captain Clayton Waterman continued his great season with a 7th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. In addition to Waterman’s big point finish, sophomore Dylan Imirowicz placed 2nd in the diving competition. Senior Kris Lacke commented following the meet, “It was nice to see our whole team end the season strong,”
This is the ending of the season for swim and dive, a successful season it was for both squads. The girls ended the regular season 4-1, while the boys went 1-4. Congratulations to all of the state finalists/championships and we will all be ready for another successful season next year.
