The big, rivalry game lived up to the hype! A jam-packed student section cheered on the 7-2 Barons as they took on their rivals, 8-1 Walt Whitman High School on Friday, Jan. 12. Whitman returned to take the lead and win it in the second half with the final score of 58-53.
The Barons came out hot, taking an early lead in the first quarter by playing suffocating defense and using their height advantage to grab early buckets. At the end of the first quarter, the Barons had a lead of five. The lead went back and forth between the two heated teams, yet going into halftime, the Barons extended their lead to ten.
Coming out of halftime, the Vikings flipped a switch, holding B-CC to four third-quarter points as they erased the ten-point deficit and took the lead.
Clawing back, the Barons tied it up in the middle of the fourth quarter, but with the momentum shifted to the Whitman side, the Vikings pulled away and closed the door at the end by hitting clutch free throws.
The two meet again at the end of the season, this time away at Whitman High School, Friday, Feb. 16.
The boys also played last night, Jan. 18, against Wheaton High School, led by the stellar performance of Senior Adam Strong Jacobson. They won with a final score of 74-30.
Tonight, Jan. 19, the boys take on Paint Branch High School at home at 7:15 p.m.
