The B-CC administration recently approved a new winter dance, set to take place on February 3rd in the cafeteria.
Proceeds from the dance will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), in honor of Mr. Palafox, a B-CC teacher, who passed earlier this year from Leukemia. B-CC is supporting LLS throughout all of Charity Month this January.
Ella Raymond, Schoolwide President of B-CC, explained the reasoning behind the decision to host a winter dance, “The SGA believes that this would be an incredible opportunity to promote student engagement, raise money for charity, and boost school spirit.”
Ms. Fishel, B-CC’s Student Government Advisor, elaborated, “We have not had [a winter dance] since 2018, and it is a tradition that students have voiced that they want to see post-pandemic. We got an overwhelming response of students wanting a dance in the winter – especially from underclassmen who mostly do not attend prom.”
One underclassman, sophomore Ellie Seiler, shared, “I really like how the money from tickets is actually going to something, and it’s a personal connection for many students.” Similarly, senior Josh Iceland stated, “ It being for charity increases the chance that I will buy a ticket.”
Iceland continued, sharing, “I would say I will go, I think a winter dance is a good idea, it really helps school spirit, which B-CC needs.” Seiler, however, explained, “I might buy a ticket to donate to the cause, but I’m probably not going to go.”
