The Barons Ice Hockey team lost in another heated rivalry match against Walter Johnson High School last Friday, Dec. 15, at Rockville Ice Arena. WJ got out to an early lead and never looked back, winning 6-2.
WJ came out of the gate strong, scoring four straight, unanswered goals in the first period. WJ scored three of their goals off of power plays. The first period ended with WJ up big by a score of 4-0.
The Barons bounced back in the second period with an early goal from Senior Matthew Duffy, assisted by Sophomore Benjamin Lyons and Senior Collin Eccles. The rest of the second period was a closely contested battle with no more goals scored by either team. The second period ended with WJ leading 4-1.
WJ answered quickly with another two straight goals of their own. In the final minutes of the game, Duffy scored his second goal of the match, assisted by Sophomore Henry Swann. When the clock hit zero and the final whistle blew, WJ won by a score of 6-2.
When asked about what B-CC needs to focus on before their next game, Senior Captain Matthew Duffy said, “We need to focus on taking fewer penalties. We have taken tons of penalties these last two games, and it has resulted in more goals for the other team because of how much time we spend playing down a man. We are also going to focus on our penalty kill and make sure that we are prepared if we do find ourselves in a five-on-four situation.”
The Barons hit the ice again after winter break on Jan. 5, at Cabin John Ice Rink against a combined Northwest High School and Quince Orchard High School team.
