On Saturday, Dec. 16, Girls Swim and Dive team beat Quince Orchard 117-69. Boys Swim and Dive also topped Quince Orchard 123-63.
The girls’ team entered the meet 1-0 and saw a complete performance from all their swimmers & divers. During the first event of the day, the 200-yard medley relay, Sophomores Virginia Hinds, Evie Hwang, Sophia Ecker, and Freshman Charlotte Dedolph put eight points up on the board. The team never took their foot off the gas. Sophomore Hailey Hammond won the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly and fellow Sophomore Brooke Patterson won the 200-yard IM. Hinds picked up another win in the 50-yard and the 500-yard freestyle races, and Sophomore Avery Moffitt won the 1-meter dive, two relays in the 400-yard freestyle, and the 200-yard freestyle. All races took home the win in their respective categories. Following the meet, Senior Captain Zoe Crane said, “Hard work and effort were put in, and people being good teammates and cheering helped a ton to bring us to victory. We look forward to facing more teams and getting more wins in the new year.”
The boys’ team picked up their first win of the season, headed by their relay wins from several different events. The boys won every relay of the day: the 200-yard medley, 200-yard freestyle, and 400-yard freestyle. Additionally, Sophomore John Duma picked up a win in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Junior Clayton Waterman won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, Junior Zach Meisel won the 1-meter dive, Senior Lucas Cheplo won the 100-yard freestyle, and Senior Alex Weng won the 100-yard breaststroke. Following Saturday’s success, Weng shared, “It feels great to have one (win) on the board especially when a lot of our fastest swimmers were not able to make it, but I think that there is a lot of great talent on the team, and I am optimistic. Even if this year doesn’t end up being our year, most of the best swimmers and all of our divers still have a few years on B-CC, so I feel the future of B-CC Swimming and Diving is bright.”
The hard work the Barons have put in so far this season is apparent in the multitude of races they have won. While off for winter break, both teams will be back in action against Winston Churchill High School at the Kennedy Shriver Aquatics Center on Jan. 6 at 9:15 a.m.
