On Nov. 21, the B-CC Latin Dance Team competed in the 23rd annual Latin Dance Competition at The Music Center at Strathmore, placing 3rd in salsa and 1st for Jack and Jill. The competition included students from 16 local high schools.
This was the first time a B-CC team has won first place at this competition. “Being able to hear the cheers of people supporting B-CC and myself is an unmatched feeling,” team member, Senior Bryan Flores stated. “This year was all about enjoying my last time performing on the stage representing B-CC,” Flores continued.
The event was organized by the After School Dance Fund, which works to create strong Latin Dance clubs within MCPS and to support the academic and social-emotional success of students. The competition’s goal itself is to strengthen the social-emotional well being of our students and promote health, exercise, and unity through Latin dance education.
Students competed in Junior and Senior categories showcasing their choreographies in duets and featured dance categories such as Salsa, Chacha, Merengue, Bachata, Jack and Jill, Parent/ Student, and Best in Show (Group). Seneca Valley’s Sensacion group and Gaithersburg’s Sabor Latino took home the Best in Show prizes in the Junior Division and Senior Division, respectively.
Students, families, and community members from around Montgomery County packed the theater to cheer for their favorite dances and celebrate Hispanic heritage.
