Basketball season is upon us! The Barons just had tryouts for the upcoming season and have set their team. Leading the pack are the returning Varsity Captains, Seniors Nate Bromberger and Carson Griffey. Also leading the way is the returning frontcourt duo of Seniors Adam Strong-Jacobson and Zamir Brown.
Last Tuesday, Nov. 28, the Barons scrimmaged Northwest High School at home. The boys won by 20 points, pulling away from a close first half in the third quarter. The leading scorer in the scrimmage was center Adam Strong-Jacobson.
The Barons have a tough schedule with several rivalry games, playing Whitman, Walter Johnson, and Churchill twice each during the regular season. Strong-Jacobson said, “I am really excited about playing in all the big rivalry games.”
One thing to keep an eye on this season is the injury bug that has already impacted this team. Currently, the team has three guys out due to injury. All are hopeful to be ready to go on opening night.
With some injuries, the team’s depth runs deep, rostering 17 players. The breakdown is five seniors, eight juniors, and four sophomores. There are no freshmen currently on the roster.
The season opener is this upcoming Tuesday. Dec. 5 at home against Rockville High School at 7 pm. Make sure to get your tickets and support the team in their opening game. The team rounds out their week with a game against Poolesville High School next Friday, Dec. 8.
