B-CC Students Respond to Matthew Perry’s Death 

On Oct. 28, 2023, we all lost a friend. Matthew Perry, a beloved star who spent countless hours entertaining us, has died.

On Oct. 28, 2023, we all lost a Friend. Matthew Perry, a beloved star who spent countless hours entertaining us, has died.

Perry, at 54, was found in his Jacuzzi by his assistant, after returning home from an errand she had been asked to run. No foul play was suspected. Perry’s family spoke with People Magazine, and expressed, “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a beloved son and brother who brought so much joy to the world both as an actor and as a friend.”

Fans and co-stars of Friends are devastated by the loss of the iconic Perry, and many remember him for his energetic portrayal of Chandler. His death took the internet by storm. Fans also gathered outside of his residence in the days following his passing. 

As we mourn the loss of Perry, B-CC students have shared how they will remember his legacy.

“I watched Friends when I was growing up, and [it was] a great show to binge. Matthew Perry has done so much. He built a rehab facility for people who were addicts, and he has done so much for those who have been and are struggling. It was very heartbreaking news to hear, and he had a very hard life as he was an addict. He will be very missed, and I hope he will be remembered for not only his work in Friends but also for bettering society,” shared Junior Mariam Kupatadze. 

Sophomore Abby Ruf said, “I was really upset when I found out, because Chandler was one of my favorite characters and I also think Matthew Perry had really great acting skills. I found it very upsetting, considering it was so sudden, and he was so young.”

Senior Sam Cohen said, “I was really devastated, because he was my favorite character on Friends.” 

“It was really sad for me because I grew up watching the show, and I was in shock. I was just having a hard time getting over it, and I would be lying if I said I did not shed a tear,” Sophomore Andrej Djurkovic explained.

Mathew Perry’s presence will be missed, but may all of his contributions be honored forever.
