After a huge win against Gaithersburg High School, the Barons traveled to Whitman to take on the Vikings in the Battle of Bethesda on Oct. 26. Last time these two rivals played, the Vikings prevailed with a 1-0 win over the Barons with a last-second goal. Going into the second round, starting goalie, Junior Frances Doyle, continued to struggle with a hand injury, so Junior Alyssa Wiener stepped in at goal for her first start of the year.
The Battle began with a quick goal from the Vikings, and Whitman took an early lead. The Barons struggled to find any offense, and the score heading into half time was 2-0 in favor of the Vikes. Whitman didn’t stop and scored three more goals before the final whistle blew, and they had beaten the Barons by a score of 5-1. Senior Logan Tongberg continued her successful run with a goal for the Barons, but it was not enough.
The Barons did not go as far as they had hoped, but records were broken and B-CC showed how good they really were. Senior Kate Campbell expressed, “Our team played with intensity, especially in the last half of the season. I am proud of how the team kept fighting.” The Barons will not take the field again this year, but they sure did give everything they had when they were on it.
