B-CC football lost their regular season finale against Paint Branch on Friday, Oct. 27, 22-16, setting them up with the third seed in the region playoffs starting next week.
The Barons entered the game with playoff implications on the line, as it would determine the second and third seeds for a highly anticipated matchup against the Panthers of Paint Branch. Destined to be a close game, the Barons looked hot starting the game, with Senior Carson Griffey punching in a two-yard rush into the endzone on their first drive of the game, making it 7-0 The Barons continued a dominant start to the game with an interception by Junior Andre Ekani interception and Junior Grady Kugel’s 27-yard field goal, which secured the Barons a 10-0 lead. Following that, Paint Branch scored two rushing touchdowns on back-to-back drives, one of those after a 68-yard run that made the game 14-10. The third quarter saw Senior Carson Griffey take the lead back with another two-yard rushing touchdown which made the game 14-16 Barons. Paint Branch dealt the final blow in the fourth quarter with a second rushing touchdown from Senior Mason Flowers, leading to the final score.
Junior Lucas Scriber, who got an interception in the game commented, “I would say our record does not reflect on our season so far. We all know we are a good football team and with the chance of a clean slate in the playoff, we are looking to prove something.”
Ending the season with a 5-4 record, the Barons will begin their quest for a state championship on Friday. Nov. 3 at home with a first-round matchup against Wheaton High School, who the Barons beat in season 42-6. The winner of that game will match up against the winner of Paint Branch vs. Northwestern with a trip to the state playoffs on the line. Show out tonight to support!
