MSA will host a meeting today, Oct. 24, during lunch in room A408 to discuss the current war between Israel and Hamas, to learn more about the history of the conflict, and how to spot media bias.
The Muslim Students Association (MSA) is a recently founded club at B-CC, geared towards unifying B-CC Muslims, and giving them a safe space and community.
The MSA was founded by B-CC Junior Renim Risku, who serves as the club’s president. In 2022. Risku said, “I [thought] about starting it my freshman year, I just looked at all of the clubs at B-CC, and saw there wasn’t a Muslim Students Association. I thought about how that would actually be really great at bringing B-CC Muslims together since we are a very small amount in our community.”
Risku also detailed some goals she has for the club. “We want to open our door to anybody to come and learn about the religion, and learn about the misconceptions about the religion. We have the goal of clearing them up and educating people regardless of their beliefs,” said Risku.
In addition, Risku shared the wide range of topics and themes discussed at MSA meetings. “We discuss different religions and how that might tie into Islam, or it could be about Islamic etiquette, or religious stories and lessons. Sometimes we just have meetings with open discussions, for everybody to have a safe space to talk about anything. We also discuss the different social issues that go into being Muslim in the West,” Risku said. “My favorite part is having everybody together, seeing people learn, even people that are not Muslim, coming and supporting and learning about the religion.”
